‘You have reached your destination’ said the automated voice of the Sat-Nav.
Glyndwr University looked to be on our left but there wasn’t a person in sight.
Had we entered the wrong destination I thought?
If we had, then it wouldn’t be the first time!
We drove a little further down the road and then I breathed a sigh of relief....
I’d just spotted Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke in the distance!
As if by magic an array of other characters popped into sight.
Batman, WWE legend The Undertaker and Baywatch’s The Hoff in particular caught my eye.
My 9 year old daughter (who had come dressed as Lydia from Beetlejuice) became giddy in the back of the car as the excitement kicked in.
‘Look dad there’s a giant Warhammer figure’!
Once inside, the convention was fragmented into different buildings, tents and outdoor stations, which created a carnival atmosphere that we hadn’t experienced at other comic conventions.
We had fun in the shooting range, enjoyed time spent in the games hall, and explored some of the stalls with lots of awesome goodies to be had.
There was an amazing animal truck with lots of exotic animals on display and my daughter was delighted to get her photo taken holding an enormous Snake.
I’m not kidding. It was ENORMOUS!
After each guzzling down a Tikka Masala bought from one of the food stands (the variety of food was sooo impressive) we made our way to the Signing Hall.
The line-up of celebrities in the hall was fantastic. There were so many big names at this event, but we were particularly stoked to see Billy Zane (Titanic, Back to The Future, The Phantom), John Rhys-Davies (Lord of The Rings, Indiana Jones), David Mazouz (Gotham) and Pink Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Amy Jo Johnson!
We finished the day by chilling out and watching the Cosplay catwalk competition for best costumes, which was so much fun. Big shout out to Batman with the killer dance moves. His awesome dance routine had us in stitches!
To sum this event up I’ll echo what my daughter said on the way home….
‘That was EPIC!"
The atmosphere at Wales Comic Con was fantastic and the event was extremely well organised.
There was plenty to do and see to fill the whole day, and I can honestly say this was one of the best family days out we’ve had.
Roll on part 2 in December 2018! :)
